The liver is involved in digestion, endocrine function, blood sugar regulation, protein and fat metabolism and much more. It produces bile that then gets stored in the gallbladder to help with fat emulsification.
Our liver chemically converts toxins (and we come into contact with a great deal of toxins in our modern world), which are then eliminated via the kidneys. Detoxification is a major process for our bodies and the greater contact you have with toxins the bigger the job. My initial consultations often revel a toxic diet full of non foods, from the bodybuilders consuming whey protein shakes full of chemicals, to the low calorie dieter eating plastic low energy non foods.
The greater your intake of toxins, the greater stress your liver in under. Once you reach its threshold then the symptoms will increase and your health will suffer (remember symptoms are not the beginning of the problem).
