I'm not hating on vegans or vegetarians, I just couldn't eat a whole one :) On a serious note I do recommend a considerable amount of plant based foods to my clients. In the past week I've had a number of clients who I've had to reduce or remove their animal based protein. However this is done on the basis of scientific tests that prove they are currently having problems digesting certain foods, not because the foods are inherently unhealthy or cause disease. Will I leave them in this state? No, we'll fix the digestion and then get them back to eating a mixed diet. Equally I recently had a client that has been vegan for almost 20 years and mysteriously developed type 2 diabetes, raised blood pressure and was on numerous drugs. The reintroduction of animal protein has breathed life into a very weary body. When you read in the paper that meat is a killer, or if Gazza comes calling, have a think about the context of it. Meat is a very broad term and if one classes corn beef in the same category as pasture raised meat then its no wonder meat is looked upon as so evil.
Eat your veg, eat your fruit, eat grain but don't miss out on meat in the misguided belief that its a killer. Variety is the key to a healthy interesting diet.
