Over the years I've been lucky enough to work alongside the entertainers from One Love (check them out as their are some pics of me somewhere). Whilst this may not seem like the obvious choice of "other" work for a health practitioner with Asperger's (i.e I don't like socializing and am obsessed with health etc), it proved a fantastic place for me to hone my skills as a health practitioner. Nightclubs are full of toxic people who are slowly degrading overtime, when you factor in late nights (often till 6am), long motorway trips, drink, drugs, and poor foods (both quantity, timing and quality) its easy to see how disease and degeneration may creep up on us. The situation may of exaggerated the effect but none the less it just reflects a sped up version of the modern day life we all face.
So, you come off stage and walk into a packed changing room at the end of your show and realise that you stink. Then oddly you notice that your right smells worse than your left? What the hell would you do next? Well the people of One Love Entertainment were lucky to have a book and health geek avidly studying and trying to avoid human interaction in the corner of the changing room. Often they would try and catch me out with health based questions, such as why have I got irritable bowl syndrome (IBS) symptoms when I've not eaten bread. Answer - That wrap you just ate is "bread", and how can I get rid of my cold symptoms. Answer - Drink a shot of vinegar. I sort of became the team health consultant which enabled me to socialize with them all (I might not talk much but if its health and nutrition you try stopping me).
So, cue the question I'd imagine they thought would confuse me. With frowns and their nose twitched up they'd enquire about the stinky right side. Generally it is excepted that the onset of smelly armpits is at the time a child hits puberty. It is irrespective of the gender and is found to be present in men as well as women equally (I know, women don't sweat they glow). During my early studies I learned that the skin is the biggest organ the body has, its also a major player (that's playor for all you American's) when it comes to detoxification, hence the reason it handles things so well for around 15 years. Disease cycles take around 15 years, so we are born healthy and over the course of 15 years we gradually congest our livers and slow our digestion.
Once the liver is working sluggishly our skin (particularly our armpits and particularly the armpit on the liver side) becomes overburdened. If the cycle continues, i.e you just mask the problem with deoderents and antiperspirents then your likely to block the glands and suffer problems in the future such as;
- Digestive issues (IBS etc)
- Skin tags
- The need to have body parts removed (gallbladder, breasts etc)
- Necrosis
So that stale perspiration under your arms isn't something that should simply be masked with an array of chemicals. We all have sweat glands, which are responsible for perspiration and an average person has over 4 million sweat glands in the body.
- Eccrine Glands: Most of the perspiration gets deposited here as these glands are the major source. Eccrine glands secrete water and salts through coiled tubes or ducts that reach skin. This procedure takes place when the body heat is sensed by the nervous system. On the other hand, Eccrine glands control the body temperature. The bacteria cannot break down the protein easily due to the sweat produced by these Eccrine glands are higher in salt.
- Apocrine Glands: These glands are present inside the armpits in large numbers through the hair follicles. Apocrine glands are responsible for secreting sweat through hairs of armpits. Apocrine glands contain sebum, a fatty substance through which the sweat is secreted. Sebum is an organic substance which is deposited in Apocrine glands. Here, the bacteria find it easy to break the proteins, which are present in the sweat secreted by these glands unlike in Eccrine glands. When the protein breaks down in sweat by bacteria, the armpit emits odor which is its result. The armpit body odor is created by the apocrine glands and these glands are responsible for the armpit sweat and armpit odor
Its not socially exceptable to not wear any deodorant, and this article isn't here to tell you to go au naturel, although their is a link between aluminum deodorants and breast cancer. As mentioned earlier the odor can be due to waste products which get accumulated in our body if the digestive process is not working. These toxins are ultimately eliminated by the effective functioning of the kidney, liver and GI tract. If you suffer the curse of the stinky armpit, don't mask it...fix it.
