Its often the case that I recommend that clients avoid pork for the sake of their health, this post isn't about why it frequently causes health issues as I've written about that previously. This is yet another post on where pork appears.
Avoiding pork can be difficult because pork and pork by-products use a variety of names when they are included in many of the foods and cosmetics we buy. Did you know that glycerine is often made from pork and is commonly used to make toothpaste and soap? This article will focus on pork products that are commonly overlooked by people who are trying to avoid pork. Pork products are sometimes used to make snack foods such as puddings, jelly, crisps, crackers, biscuits, cookies, donuts and marshmallows including marshmallow bits in cereal and hot cocoa. Pork products are also found in some brands of cake frosting, cheese spreads, yogurts, margarine, and ice cream. Look for words like lard, animal fats, animal glyceride, hydrolyzed animal protein, enzymes, emulsifiers, monostearates, mono and di-glyceride and gelatin on the label when you buy these products. Dairy products such as whipped cream, sour cream and cheese may also contain gelatin or rennet. Rennet is an enzyme which turns milk solids into cheese. Animal rennet is most often used. Look for mono and di-glyceride (forms of glycerine), or enzymes on the label. They may not all be made with pork but the only way to know for sure is to contact the company or look for a Kosher marking (K or U if your in the US of A) on the label. Pork in the form of glycerine, keratin, collagen and tallow are used in cosmetics and toiletries. Some common ones that contain pork or pork by-products are lipstick, shaving cream, toothpaste, hand lotion, bath soap and shampoos. Pork is also hidden in detergents, cleansers, dish liquids, and soaps. Some medications may also contain pork products; the most common is the gelatin coated tablet of the gelatin capsule (gelcaps). The Physicians Desk Reference is a reliable source that we can refer to for the names, ingredients, indications, reactions and brands of every prescription and non-prescription drug or medication on the market. So, think twice before you brush your teeth with Colgate Pork Toothpaste... I'm not a big fan of pork, I have a rule, never eat an animal that would happily eat you, and as the saying goes, never sleep in a pig pen. Back in 2005 I spent 3 days in class with Emma Lane (the parasite queen) in which we learned of the dangers of eating pork. Since that day I have been sure to follow strict guidelines to purchase the best meat I can and then freeze it for 48 hours before consuming. However I've recently been studying a bit more (when am I not studying) and have decided to just avoid pork altogether. In the words of Bricktop from Snatch; "You're always going to have trouble lifting the body in one piece. Apparently, the best thing to do is cut up the body in to 6 pieces and pile them all together. When you got your 6 pieces, you gotta get rid of them cause its no good leaving it in the freezer for your mum to find now is it? Then I hear the best thing to do is to feed them to pigs. You gotta starve the pigs for a few days. You gotta shave the heads of the victims and pull the teeth out for sake of the piggies' digestion. You can do this afterwards of course, but you don't want to go sifting through pig crap now do you? They will go through bone like butter. You need at least 16 pigs to finish the job in one sitting, so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm. They will go through a body that weighs 200 pounds in about 8 minutes. That means that a single pig can consumes 2 pounds of uncooked flesh per minute. Hence the expression 'As greedy as a pig'." Pigs will eat anything, dead insects, worms, rotting carcasses, feces including their own, garbage, other pigs, and if hungry enough human flesh. There are many diseases carried from swine to man, particularly parasite infestations. Its also said that pigs do not have sweat glands so they struggle to eliminate toxins. Pigs are biologically similar to humans, and their meat is said to taste similar to human flesh, as testified Armine Meiwes the German Cannibal who described how the human tasted of pork Tv interview with the German canibal 'Human Flesh Tastes Like Pork' Pigs have been used for dissection in biology labs due to the similarity between their organs and human organs. People with insulin-dependent diabetes usually inject themselves with pig insulin. Eating pork is often a direct route to becoming infected with parasites. Pork often carries parasites, some of which can survive even the high temperatures of grilling and for those that do consume it I always recommend getting the highest quality and freezing it for 48 hours prior to consumption. Cysticercosis, lives in pork tissue and the larvae are released, reach maturity, and mate in the intestines, the females producing live larvae. The parasites are then carried from the gastrointestinal tract by the bloodstream to various muscles, where they become encysted. Parasites are difficult to diagnose and even medical doctors miss them. However, if you have vague health problems that have not been resolved after much effort, one possible cause may be parasites. Some parasites attach themselves to the intestinal lining. If they migrate out of the intestine into other parts of the body they can cause unexpected serious health problems. We have seen several cases of individuals diagnosed with brain tumors that actually have a parasite that has made its way to the brain. |
