So, despite all the negatives of Asperger's, are there any positives. Well yes there are, the very same traits that make us odd or socially unacceptable can also be the things we are appreciated for. Our disdain for the rules of society, mean we are often unique and original people that stand out from the crowd. Our lack of social understanding can make us seem mysterious and interesting. Or obsession and inability to socialise can let us become world leaders in our chosen fields of special interest.
Despite struggling to fit into society I can find solace in my own little world studying and researching nutrition. So we can be of huge benefit to society, we just need to realise our own worth and educate those who live to socialise that not everyone is the same.
We are not miserable, loners, arrogant or unsociable. Neurotypical people need to realise that not everyone enjoys the things that they do. While they feel inclined to make me dance, sing, attend parties, they would be horrified if I insisted they stop enjoying their parties and sat at home being quiet. The world is full of different people with a whole spectrum of personalities.
