— Lorna Wing
The above list is of some of the problems effecting those with Asperger’s (those in bold are the areas which I consider myself to have problems with). AS can often go unnoticed especially in adults who have learned to adapt to some degree.
I was thinking about Lorna Wing’s quote and it dawned upon me that my study at the C.H.E.K Institute in the US was so much easier than any other study that I’ve attempted partly due to the topic (health) being my obsession but also because my fellow students shared a lot of my traits and in my opinion often;
- Over think - Analyze things too much. (Great for getting to the root of a health issue
- Obsessional interest. (Often 100% absorbed in health & well-being)
- Over focus on detail. (Will often give too much info to clients and overload them).
- Perfectionist. (Find it hard when clients don’t put in effort)
- Think outside the box. (Ability to look further afield)
- Computer like logic when understanding knowledge or working things out. (Logic makes sense and the CHEK institute defiantly teaches logic.
