Today I had a minor disaster, I fell (yet again) and landed badly on my so called non weight bearing leg. It hurts like mad and I'm currently sat with it elevated wondering what to do. Its not often that I haven't got the answer but seeing as I don't know what's going on under the cast its hard to make a judgement. I wasn't overdoing it (or I don't think I was), I literally slipped from my crutch and the foot hit the floor. Am hoping I've just put the stitches under a bit of strain and nothing more serious has occurred that may hinder my recovery. Its 45 minutes since I slipped and the pain is still quite intense, am refraining from painkillers as I don't want to mask the pain and miss some warning signs.
I've learnt a lot the past few days about how hard it is to navigate places for those less mobile, taking a short cut through the Westfield Centre in Derby was a nightmare. Most people (me included) are quite shocked when they realise just how little you can do while in a cast and how limited your life becomes.
It's hard to focus on something else while in the NWB phase as I have to be completely focused on the leg so as not to put it on the ground and re-rupture it. Hopefully I haven't lost that focus today.
