Today I get another trip out, its haircut time, which is long overdue. Will be quite painful getting there and then sitting with my leg on the floor but my current chilled out surf look is way out of control. So my rest and recovery continues, I'm really not the best at inactivity but I know the score so am following doctors orders. My days range from laying in bed (not as good as it sounds). I have my iPad upstairs with me so its fairly easy to watch the iPlayer app or read a book via the kindle or iBook apps. Other than that I'm sat at my desk using my MacBook or lay on my massage couch.
I'm full non weight bearing (NWB) but have had a few accidents. I've accidentally put weight on my injured leg a few times after falling. Not a good feeling and certainly a reminder to stay off it (hopefully I haven't strained my repair too much but it wasn't intentional).
Elevation is the name of the game but it's difficult to keep the foot elevated at all times. Within minutes of being up and about the blood rushes to my foot and my toes turn purple, and it feels like it’s going to explode.
To avoid pressure on the incision wound, I try to keep the weight off the actual sight as much as possible. The American Journal of Orthapedics recommends avoiding putting pressure on the stitched area so as much as possible I try to sleep in my usual position (on my side) while keeping it elevated on a pillow (tricky).
Jen and my parents are still being amazing bringing me food, drinks and generally helping me get about. Busy day already as I'm on my second blog post and its only 10am.
